Digitale opening voor prestigieuze Humboldt Forum in Berlijn

Het prestigieuze cultuur- en museumcentrum Humboldt Forum in het herbouwde stadsslot op Unter den Linden in Berlijn had zijn eerste bezoekers al in 2019 moeten ontvangen. Maar door technische problemen moest de opening verschillende keren worden uitgesteld. Vandaag opent het Humboldt Forum dan toch zijn deuren - digitaal. Dat is vanaf 19.00 uur via een livestream te volgen.

Tegenover het museumeiland in Berlijn is de afgelopen jaren gebouwd aan een van de meest omstreden projecten van het herenigde Duitsland: de wederopbouw van het barokke Berlijnse stadsslot, schreef columnist Merlijn Schoonenboom vorig jaar. De voormalige residentie van de Duitse keizer werd in 1950 door de DDR opgeblazen als een afrekening met de Duitse geschiedenis.

Bijna 30 jaar is er over de wederopbouw gediscussieerd: voorstanders vinden dat het herbouwde stadsslot wonden uit het verleden kan genezen, volgens tegenstanders moet het project de geschiedenis juist doen vergeten. Maar nu staat het gebouw er en binnenin, op de 40.000 vierkante meter oppervlakte, bevindt zich het Humboldt Forum, een centrum voor wereldcultuur.

Het Humboldt Forum moet het belang van de ‘dialoog der culturen’ in de hedendaagse multiculturele samenleving onderstrepen, aldus Schoonenboom. In het cultuur- en museumcentrum komen onder meer de door de Nederlander Paul Spies ontwikkelde Berlijn-expositie en de etnologische en Aziatische verzamelingen van de Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Het museum is genoemd naar de 19e-eeuwse broers Wilhelm en Alexander von Humboldt, de een beroemd als taalgeleerde, de ander als ontdekkingsreiziger.

Dat het museum nu digitaal opent, komt de organisatoren niet heel slecht uit: zonder corona had het Humboldt Forum ook alleen gefaseerd open kunnen gaan. Nog steeds is slechts een klein deel van de exposities toegankelijk. De opening is vanaf 19.00 uur via een livestream te volgen op Humboldtforum.org. Lees meer bij tagesspiegel.de en RBB.de
